Age: 31

Gender: Female
Description: This woman underwent both functional and cosmetic nasal surgery. To improve her breathing she had her septum inside straightened and turbinates reduced to open the air passage. Externally, she wanted to straighten the nose, refine the tip, and improve her profile.

Details:

Details: Note the straightening of the nose and more refined symmetric tip.
Note the straighter profile view and “smaller” appearance to the tip of the nose (reduced projection).
Note the straighter and smoother dorsum (bridge of the nose) on the oblique view.

Case: 35201
Category: Nose Job (Rhinoplasty)
Age: 56
Weight: 0
Height: NaN
Gender: Male
Description: This man underwent functional nasal surgery to improve his breathing. Surgery included a septoplasty, turbinectomy, and placement of a graft taken from the septal cartilage inside the nose to the left lower side of the nose to provide more support. The graft does not cause any change in the appearance of the nose and is placed through a small incision inside the nose with dissolvable stitches. The surgery does not require any cast or external stitches. There is minimal swelling or bruising immediately after the surgery.

Details:

On base view, there is no change on the nose. There is no bulging on the left side to indicate there is a cartilage graft.
Before the surgery, with deep breathing, the left side of the nose has some collapse which narrows the breathing passage. After surgery with maximal inspiration, the left side of the nose no longer collapses in.

Case: 35203
Category: Nose Job (Rhinoplasty)
Age: 24
Weight: 0
Height: NaN
Gender: Female
Description: This woman had primarily functional concerns to improve her breathing. Often functional and cosmetic problems with the nose are inseparable. She underwent septoplasty, turbinectomy, and placement of cartilage grafts to the nose to provide more support.

Details:

Note before the surgery the middle portion of the nose is narrowed giving an hourglass shape to the nose. This is beacuase the cartilages in the middle of the nose (upper lateral cartilages) are collapsing. Cartilage from the inside septum was used to place grafts on both sides to open the breathing passages. On the outside, this also provides more symmetry to the front view and less of an hourglass shape.
There was not much change to the bridge of the nose. The tip of the nose is more refined.

Case: 35204
Category: Nose Job (Rhinoplasty)
Weight: 0
Height: NaN
Gender: Male
Description: This teenager sustained a nasal fracture and underwent closed reduction of the fracture. This is a quick procedure performed under intravenous sedation.

Details:

AFter the injury the nose is twisted to the patient’s right. After it appears straighter.
There is a small bump on the bridge which is slightly smaller after surgery. A closed reduction procedure often cannot remove a traumatic bump. This often requires a more formal rhinoplasty (nose surgery) which can be performed several months after the injury.

Case: 35205
Category: Nose Job (Rhinoplasty)
Age: 25
Weight: 0
Height: NaN
Gender: Female
Description: This young woman had only concerns to improve her breathing. As a fitness instructor, open breathing was critical for her. She did not want much change to the appearance to her nose. She underwent septoplasty, turbinectomy, and placement of 4 cartilage grafts taken from the septum. 2 grafts were placed on each side of the nose.

Details:

The front view shows improved symmetry and a straighter less “narrow” nose to open her breathing.
The base view shows a larger airspace secondary to more support of the lower sides of the nose. These pictures are without the patient breating in.
Before surgery there was significant collapse of the sides of the nose with deep breathing. After surgery, there is no collapse with deep breathing as seen in the picture on the right.
